John Aho serves as Executive Director of Sound View Camp and Retreat Center, where he focuses on connecting people to nature, community, and meaningful outdoor experiences. With a background in camp leadership, youth development, and nonprofit operations, John has spent over 20 years creating programs that help people of all ages engage with the outdoors in accessible and transformative ways.Before joining Sound View, John and his wife Betsy founded Camp Inglewood in Nashville, a fully outdoor, year-round day camp centered on creativity, exploration, and connection. John lives on-site with Betsy and their three children and is passionate about strengthening programs, stewarding the land, and building a vibrant future for camp communities.
BetsY Aho moved to the Pacific Northwest from Nashville with John and her three boys and has spent most of her adult life working in camps and outdoor education centers. Before coming to Sound View, she and her husband ran a forest preschool in Nashville, rooted in a love for nature-based learning and simple, connected living. Betsy is passionate about creating spaces where kids and adults can slow down, unplug, connect with nature, and tune into their own thoughts and needs. Drawn by the beauty and simplicity of camp life, she feels especially grateful to help steward this extraordinary place into a new season, creating an environment that feels welcoming, meaningful, and a little bit magical for everyone who comes through the gates.
Kendra Karwacki is the Outdoor Environmental Education Director! Armed with a Master's in Natural Science and Environmental Education, Kendra is all about organizing and leading school field trips that spark curiosity about nature.
With a passion for the outdoors matching Bailey's (her adventurous dog), She is on a mission to show young minds the magic of the environment. She’s driven by a deep love for nature and a desire to inspire today's kids to appreciate and care for our planet.
Beyond work, Kendra enjoys hiking, kayaking, knitting, and diving into a good read. Get ready for exciting adventures and inspiring lessons, guiding students toward a greener future!
Young Cho is the Chef at Sound View Camp in Longbranch, Washington. A Seattle native, Young brings more than 15 years of culinary experience across restaurants, food trucks, catering, community food programs, and innovative food system projects. His work has ranged from neighborhood-focused cooking to forming a team in NASA’s Deep Space Food Challenge, where they explored how to create sustainable, nutrient-dense meals in resource-limited environments. He is currently taking part as the Culinary Lead of a locally formed team in NASA’s newest initiative, the Mars to Table Challenge, continuing his focus on the future of food and sustainability. At Sound View Camp, Young is focused on building a kitchen that is efficient, intentional, and rooted in community, creating an environment where food supports connection, consistency, and care for campers and staff alike.
