CARDAI HILL

Sitting on a plateau at the end of the pier with an amazing view of Puget Sound, Cardai Hill is a popular camp site. It sits next to the ruins of the beach lodge - possibly the oldest in camp. People that camp on Cardai Hill are treated to eagles and soft breezes. The site is named for Camp Cardai Hill which was sold in the 1980s to help pay for Sound View Camp.

CAZ

Caz is the support building for the Shire cabins. It is a converted platform tent structure. It is still unfinished - so we hung some groovy tapestries to cover some of the framing. Presently it can be used for cooking simple meals and for small gatherings to play games or get out of the weather.

CHALET

The chalet cabins are, well, unusual. A few years ago, they were very simple structures with no windows and only used in the summer. Now, they are very well insulated, heated, but still quite unique. No two chalets are the same and they still are very simple "wooden tents". They are great for a couple or a family of three.

The five chalets are close to the Shire shower house. Each has heat and electricity but no bathroom.

DAY CAMP AREA

This little meadow and support cabin is close to the farm and archery. In the summer, we run a small day camp using this space as a base for campground guests and local children. Other times of the year, we use it for day groups and arts & crafts.

DINING HALL

Our dining hall can seat 140. However, in the summer, we mostly eat outside under canopies set up around the big green lawn. Our kitche serves up simple, hearty, camp food - nothing fancy. The dinner bell rings in meal times.

FOREST TENT SITES

Presently, five very unique family-friendly tent sites are carved out of what used to be a paintball course. Each site has its own picnic table, water hose and fire-pit. There is plenty of firewood to scavenge in the surrounding woods.

The present tent-sites are named : Cubby Hollow Bastion Foxhole Rowboat

A picnic shelter, wood-shed, and portable toilet is located at the Alder Trail head to service the campers who use this area.

GIANT SWING and BIG JUMP

Our high ropes course is planned to be upgraded in the next few years. We still have two elements that we can run - the giant swing and the bign jump. These are wonderful for both the challenge/thrill of the participant as well as the teamwork by all to make it happen safely.

INNER LAGOON

Much of the property is environmentally sensitive. The staff and Board strive to protect God’s creation by ensuring that ecosystems function as they are supposed to.

The saltwater marsh is a good example. For much of the day, the tide is out and it reveals much aquatic activity in the mud, sand, and grasses. When the tide is high, water covers the inner lagoon to bring moisture, nutrients and sea birds to provide balance. In addition, a tiny freshwater spring as well as runoff from the upper part of camp keeps this estuary thriving and crucial to the health of Puget Sound.

Perfect for youth groups and large families, the Longhouse comes fully equipped with a shared snack kitchen and restrooms. Each side (Lakewood and Fircrest) has a bunkroom that sleeps 16 and a leader’s room that sleep 2.

Set apart from the rest of the camp, you are free to make noise, or enjoy peace and quiet. There is a fire pit and plenty of firewood to gather

Designed for intimate fellowship: eat, sleep, play games, and enjoy an all in one central meeting room! Beautiful trails lead past a secluded picnic shelter, a campfire pit overlooking the Sound, finally ending at Sound View's waterfront!

OUTER LAGOON (boating)

Protected from the southerly winds, currents, and boat wake, the outer lagoon is the home to Sound View's fleet of boats. We have kayaks, canoes, and little round boats called "corcls" - perfect for adventurous kids. We only open up boating when the tide is 7 feet or higher to protect sensiutive marine life. Lifejackets are located in the shelter by the pier and must be worn by all.

PIER

Even though we don't use the pier for boating anymore, this iconic structure offers our guests an opportunity to be right out in the Sound to watch sea critters float by, be introduced to all sorts of seabirds, gaze at the stars, and even check out the pilings at low tide for marine flora and fauna. The stairs at the end of the pier lead up to Cardai Hill and down to the waterfront.

THE SHIRE

The Shire is a group of eight tiny heated cabins, Agape (pronounced Ah - Gah - Pea) cabins can sleep three adults or a family of four. The three Agape cabins have a bathroom (no shower) inside while the five Chalet cabins do not. Chalet cabins sleep two adults or a family of three. The Shire has a nearby bath house as well as a small lodge set up as a meeting space and camp kitchen. Shire cabins are perfect for individual families, family camps, and scout groups. Schools visiting Sound View for Outdoor Environmental Education often put extra teachers and bus drivers into Shire cabins.

  • Chalets

    • Madrona Grace
    • Westminster Tacoma
    • Westminster Chehalis
    • Mission Woods

There is a fire pit for the three Agape cabins and another for the five chalets.

TENT CABIN VILLAGE

This living area consists of a cluster of eight platform tents in a shady, wooded area. Four of the tents are “old style” canvas under a physical roof. (The tents have never been wet.) The other four tents have been converted to be more “cabin-like” but still retain three modern fabric walls with a wooden entryway. This make these newer structures roomier and able to be heated in the spring and fall. The tent-cabins each sleep eight, with bunk beds, mattresses, interior lights, and electricity.

The Beavers' Lodge sits in the center of the village and is used by the summer program director as living space/office. Organized groups using the village can request to use the building. A picnic shelter with brick cook stove can be used for barbecues and gatherings. A large fire pit with bleacher seating overlooks a hillside.

This village is used for our summer camp. It is also perfect for scout groups, families, and youth groups that want a more rustic experience.

WATERFRONT

The Sound View Camp Waterfront looks out across Drayton Passage towards Anderson Island. Camp is situated on a sand spit with up to a 17 foot tidal range. This means that during high water, the waterfront is ideal for exploring by boat while at low tide, beachcombing with water shoes is best. To protect our beach and fragile ecosytstem, we do not allow the harvesting of shellfish.

WATERFRONT TENT SITES

There are three tent sites on the waterfront lawn. Because it is a sensitive area, a limit of 4 people per tent site is permitted. Each site has a picnic table and fire pit, Potable water is located near the shelter and a porta-potty is located up the hill in the parking area.
