ound View Camp and Retreat Center is seeking a full time person or persons to fill multiple roles as described below.  Set on 115 wooded acres in the Pacific Northwest, the camp has half a mile of beautiful waterfront acreage on Puget Sound.  On site, the facilities include a dining hall, two retreat buildings with housing for 24 and 36 people, rustic cabins, and platform tents.  Also, on site there is a permaculture garden, trails and a stable that has been used for horses.  Some of the activities offered are boating, a ropes course, paintball course, gaga ball pit, and pickleball.  Located about an hour drive from Tacoma, Washington this would be considered a peaceful secluded location, off the beaten track but close enough to town to drive for entertainment, socializing, and groceries.  The camp’s main focus is on the Summer Camp Ministry reaching out to children and families, but hosts weekend guest groups throughout the off season.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Grounds and Facilities Maintenance

  • Stock and clean all rooms and facilities after Guest Group use
  • Landscaping – mowing and limb removal
  • Daily trash removal
  • Daily safety check of facilities and grounds
  • Perform minor repairs and/or consult with SV Board of Directors facilities contact (Jennifer) about more extensive needs
  • Maintain order and safety in maintenance shed
  • Complete daily task log
  • Purchase necessary supplies and equipment in accordance with policy
  • Attend monthly Sound View Board of Directors meeting to present grounds and facilities updates and needs  

Guest Services

  • Monitor and respond to phone inquiries
  • Schedules dates for Guest Groups
  • Ensure Guest Group contracts are in order and completed in a timely manner
  • Greet and orient Guest Groups
  • Remain on grounds and assist Guest Groups to ensure comfort and safety
  • Set up campfires when requested by Guest Groups
  • Coordinate/Schedule Food Service, Ropes Course, Waterfront and other facilitators, as required by Guest Groups 


  • Communicate with Sound View Board of Directors with questions, concerns or needs
  • Purchase necessary supplies and equipment in accordance with policy
  • Other tasks as assigned/needed   

Desirable Knowledge and Skills

Grounds and Facilities Maintenance

  • Experience with safe practices using hand and power tools including lawn tractors, weed eaters and chainsaws
  • Ability to perform basic engine and vehicle maintenance on lawnmowers and camp vehicles
  • Basic plumbing skills – toilets, faucets, fix leaks
  • Basic carpentry skills – woodworking, sanding, painting, etc.
  • Basic electrical skills – light bulbs, wiring, circuit breakers, fuses
  • Basic facility repairs – windows/screens, doors, lighting
  • Able to do heavy lifting and carrying of objects of 60 pounds 

Guest Services

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, written and verbal
  • Understanding of American Camp Association (ACA) rules and regulations
  • Ability to develop positive relationships with Guest Groups and campers
  • Views hospitality as a servant ministry 

General Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to be flexible and multi-task 
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as a team

Job Qualifications

  • Applicant is in accordance with Sound View’s mission and core values (
  • Familiar with and belief in the tenets of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)
  • Able to live on-site
  • Minimum of a high school degree
  • Related experience in maintenance and hosting, especially in a Christian camp setting
  • Must be 21 years or older
  • Must have current or obtain Washington State food handling permit
  • Must have current or obtain first-aid certification and CPR
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
  • Subject to background check
